Big Scary Monster by Thomas Docherty

Picture
On the top of the mountain lives a Big Scary Monster. This monster loves nothing more than to scare all the other creatures but one morning he decides to go for a walk down the mountain and finds out that he may not be quite as big and scary as he thinks. The tables are about to be turned!

From the author of Little Boat which was shortlisted for the Kate Greenway Medal, this story of a scary monster carries a strong anti-bullying message. Parents will be able to explore this theme in depth with their children thanks to the lessons learnt by the Monster as he discovers that maybe scaring others will only make him lonely. Despite the artwork lacking a little in lustre, it is bold and children should love this least frightening of all monsters. Best of all the tale lends itself perfectly to the theatrical story telling that children enjoy so much, so expect a few shrieks and giggles when you let loose your hearty rendition of BOO!
